Setting Up Security with ADAM

ADAM is a lightweight stand-alone LDAP server that is similar in functionaltiy to Active Directory. You can use the procedures in this section to become familiar with LDAP security.

The topics in this section describe how to install and configure Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) for use with Enterprise Server's MLDAP_ESM security manager.

ADAM is a stand-alone LDAP server that is very similar to Active Directory. The key difference is that, unlike Active Directory, ADAM can be deployed on a server that is not a domain controller.

Even if you do not intend to use ADAM as your LDAP, it is useful to follow the procedures in this section to familiarise yourself with what is involved. This will be a useful exercise if you want to use a more fully-featured LDAP such as Active Directory, or OpenLDAP.

Note: If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you can use Active Directory Lightweight Directory Service (AD LDS) rather than ADAM. The functionality is the same, and the procedures are the same as those described for ADAM.
